Pam Travers from SteppingStones Recruitment Ltd and Paul Drake of Genesis Trust & Corporate Services Ltd presented a cheque for US$8,000 to Meals on Wheels.
Pam and Paul raised the funds through sponsorship from friends and family to complete the Rohto Ironman 70.3 Miami. They both successfully completed the gruelling course comprised of a 1.2 mile swim, followed by a 56 mile bike and then ending with a 13.1 mile run, and were joined in their success by Cayman athletes Caroline Cahill and Dave Bennett.
“At the start of the event I was very nervous,” said Ms Travers, a regular competitor in local triathlons, cycling, swimming and running events. “I think there were just so many competitors and so much to think about that it all felt a bit overwhelming. As soon as I got to the entry point for the swim my nerves left me and I started to focus on what I needed to do. I didn’t want to let myself or my sponsors down and was determined to raise as much as I could for Meals on Wheels. I actually enjoyed the whole experience and I’d definitely do it again.”
“We are delighted to be able to help Meals on Wheels which provides such a vital service in the local community.”
Meals on Wheels is a charitable organisation that delivers hot lunches daily to those in need. They have a large number of volunteers both individuals and companies who assist in the delivery of these meals each day.
