Sunday 24th July 2016 is International Self-Care Day the focus of which is to promote healthy lifestyle self-care programmes in organizations and communities around the world by encouraging individuals to take ownership of their personal wellness in order to improve longevity and quality of life. To this end, the International Self Care Foundation seeks to educate the public about healthy life style and self-care behaviors as described in the 7 Pillars of Self-Care namely: Health Literacy, Self-Awareness, Physical Activity, Healthy Eating, Risk Avoidance or Mitigation, Good Hygiene and Rational and Responsible use of Self-Care products and Services.
Most of us are probably quite familiar with these principles at least in general which can easily lead to complacency in an area that is central not only to our physical well-being but also to our performance on the job, ability to parent our children as well as to maintain an active and joyful lifestyle. Why not make a concerted effort to keep expanding your knowledge and self-care skills by devoting a little time on ISD day to improve your understanding and skills in one of the above mentioned self-care areas? Your body will thank you and you may even find that you are happier and more fulfilled in your personal and professional lives. By Laura.
