Things to do

Water Sports

Swimming, snorkelling, kayaking, fishing and in particular scuba diving and sailing are all popular pastimes. As Cayman is encircled by reefs, scuba diving is highly developed and the islands are known as one of the top dive destinations in the world. Scuba equipment, to buy or hire, is more costly here than in the US but is comparable to the UK. If you don’t have your own gear, you can find used equipment at the many yard sales held each weekend. There are a number of diving schools available all of which cater for complete novices to qualified divers. There is a very active sailing club which regularly organises races, regattas and other social events.

Golf

There are two 9-hole courses and frequent tournaments.

Other Sports

There are many other sporting activities each week. Cycling, soccer/football, tennis, squash, basketball, netball, cricket, rugby, running, badminton, softball, Gaelic football, hockey, rugby, table tennis, swimming, triathlon, volleyball and the equestrian centre have associations that welcome new members. See the CaymanActive website for more information on sports, health and fitness.

Bowling is at King’s Sports Centre. Darts and dominos are local favourites and played at many pubs. There is also a skateboard and surf park.

Arts

The National Gallery and the National Museum offer programs, classes and special exhibitions. The Cayman Drama Society is an amateur dramatics society which puts on several plays each year. And the National Choir welcomes new singers for their annual seasonal performances. The Cayman National Cultural Foundation promotes a range of arts and welcomes volunteers and performers. There is also a Toastmasters Club, Playwrights Guild, Photography Club and Visual Arts Society.

Entertainment

Movie theatres, night clubs, beachfront bars, book stores, and frequent music concerts are popular choices for evening entertainment.

Fitness Centres

Full service fitness gyms include World Gym, Anytime Fitness and King's Gym, each offering daily, monthly, and annual memberships. Yoga, Pilates, personal trainer, martial arts and body work studios can be found throughout the George Town and Seven Mile Beach area.

TV and Radio

There are several local TV stations and a cable TV company that provides a range of packages. Satellite receivers are also commonly used. "BBC World" is available 24 hours a day via cable or satellite.

There are numerous radio stations playing pop, rock, reggae, religious and country music. The national radio station, owned by the Government, is a good source of community news and events. The BBC World service is available through Radio Cayman relays at certain times of the day on short wave.
