Accommodation
There is a wide variety of accommodation types in the Cayman Islands, though condos are favoured by expatriate residents. 1 bedroom properties are scarce, while 2 bedroom units are plentiful. You may also consider shared housing to help manage expenses.
Finding a Place
There are numerous real estate agents that deal with rental properties. Previous employees have found the following helpful:
Amber at Century 21
Tessa Hydes Property Management
Cayman4Rent lists a wide range of available rental properties as well as a Roommates listing.
Extensive listings can be found in the local newspapers. The Caymanian Compass runs classified advertisements daily, with the Friday issue usually having the greatest selection. The Cayman Net News also runs classifieds.
Nearly all rental properties come furnished (full complement of furniture and major appliances) to fully furnished (also including linens, small appliances and crockery) and air conditioning is standard. Many units also have various amenities such as swimming pool, gym, cable, in-unit laundry etc. Utilities are rarely included in the rental rate.
Most properties accept children and smokers. Some accept pets, though they may require an extra deposit.
Neighborhoods
The majority of jobs are located in the George Town and Seven Mile Beach areas and there is a large number of accommodations here. Expect to pay higher rents for the convenience of being close to work, the beach, and abundant dining and shopping. Other neighbourhoods favoured by expatriate workers are South Sound, Prospect, Savannah and West Bay. Rents are typically lower here. Waterfront living is most affordable in Bodden Town and beyond to East End and Rum Point due to the longer commute.
Schools are concentrated in the George Town and South Sound area, especially along Walkers Road. This is a popular area for family accommodations. There are several schools also located in West Bay and Prospect.
